A new mom hanged a ‘No Breastfeeding Zone’ sign in her hospital bed right after she gave birth, and everyone was wondering why!
Breastfeeding in public has been a controversial subject, and it has led many moms to face humiliation. For instance, one mom was kicked out of church for breastfeeding.
For some women, breasting isn’t an option, and being reminded of the fact can be heartbreaking.
But one mom, Meghan Koziel, decided to address the issue head-on by hanging a sign on her hospital bed so that hospital staff wouldn’t need to ask her why she wasn’t breastfeeding.
Meghan got married three years ago to her husband, John. And recently, the couple welcomed their first baby.
Despite the joy of becoming a mother, Meghan has a sad story behind her happiness. A few years ago, she was diagnosed with breast cancer and to remove the disease, she had to undergo a double mastectomy.
She also underwent 30 rounds of radiation therapy, and in July 2017, she was considered NED (No Evidence of the Disease).
After her treatment, Meghan wanted to have her life back, and so she opted to have an external breast reconstruction surgery.
Meghan wrote in her blog:
But when she gave birth, she knew people will be asking her why she wasn’t breastfeeding her daughter. She couldn’t breastfeed because of the double mastectomy treatment she underwent to treat cancer.“I simply wanted to get back to living my life, being me, looking cute and feeling sexy as I always have.”
So, she designed a ‘No Breastfeeding Zone’ sign and hanged in her hospital room to prevent people from asking why she wasn’t breastfeeding her child.
She also shared a photo of the sign on Instagram. The post went viral, gaining over 9,000 likes and hundreds of comments.
