Birthday boy! A gap-toothed and belly laughing Prince George hints at his love of sports by wearing an English football shirt in adorable pictures taken by mother Kate to mark his SIXTH birthday

It seems like only yesterday that the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge proudly displayed their first-born on the steps of the Lindo Wing at St Mary's Hospital, Paddington.

The following year the third in line to the throne, then ten months, was dubbed 'the Republican slayer' when they took him on tour to Australia and New Zealand and he won the nation over with his chubby little legs and characteristic pout.

Now, as he and his classmates at Thomas's Battersea, the private prep school he attends in London, prepare to move up and become 'leaders' of the Lower School, his mother Kate, 37, has proudly offered a glimpse of how big her 'little Georgie' has become.

All three pictures released yesterday by Kensington Palace to mark the future king's sixth birthday today were taken by the duchess, a talented amateur photographer.

Prince George appears to be a big fan of a green polo shirt - if his recent appearances are anything to go by.

In an official photograph released by Kensington Palace to mark his sixth birthday today, the young royal is pictured wearing a dark green polo, which retails at just £5.99 from high-street brand H&M.

And it's not the first time the little style icon has opted for a similar wardrobe staple, as he previously wore one in a slightly lighter shade while visiting his mother Kate's Chelsea Flower Show garden back in May.

He also donned the very same top when he watched his father William compete at the King Power Royal Charity Polo Day earlier this month.

Royals fans have gone wild over Prince George's new birthday portraits - pointing out the likeness to his father - Prince William, at that age.

Kensington Palace released the pictures, taken by mother Kate Middleton, 37, ahead of the future king's sixth birthday today.

And fans were quick to comment on how similar the young prince looked to William, 37, with his beaming smile and blonde locks.

Fans flooded social media with their thoughts, with one posting: 'Wow, he looks exactly like his dad! Happy sixth birthday, Prince George!'

Wishing you a very special day!' Harry and Meghan send George 'lots of love

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have led royal well-wishes to Prince George as he celebrates his sixth birthday.

Harry, 34, and Meghan, 37, took to Instagram to send their nephew 'lots of love' on his special day.

The couple are understood to enjoy a close relationship with the young prince and Meghan was seen spending time with George on a family day out to the polo this month.

The Sussexes wrote: 'Happy Birthday! Wishing you a very special day and lots of love!' They shared the message alongside a balloon and cake emoji.

Notably, the couple chose not to use the prince's name. It comes after they faced accusations of being too 'informal' by not using Charlotte and Louis' titles in their birthday messages.
