The renowned Francophone artiste was confirmed dead on Monday after he was involved in a traffic accident.
African stars including Didier Drogba, Asamoa Gyan, Nicolas Pepe, Franck Kessie, Awilolongoba, Fally Ipupa and Gervinho have joined the rest of the continent in mourning Ange Didier Houon, popularly known as Dj Arafat.

He reportedly suffered a skull fracture before he was confirmed dead on Monday morning.

The tragic death of the Moto Moto hit crooner came as a shock to the football stars who have sent their condolences to the family and fans of the artiste.

DJ Arafat, whose real name is Ange Didier Huon, or Arafat Muana, was an Ivorian DJ, singer and musician in Shangaรฏ on Princess Street in Yopougon, Ivory Coast. He was the son of artist Tina Glamour and the deceased musician Houon Pierre. He was considered one of the most popular African artists in French-speaking countries around the world. DJ Arafat is one of the first in his country Ivory Coast to obtain 1 million YouTube views in less than a day on his song ‘Moto Moto’. He died on August 12, 2019, in a fatal motorcycle accident in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

Dj Arafat was not married but had two children with his girlfriend. On an Instagram post on August 2019 just a week before he dies, he posted a photo of himself holding a child with another adjacent to him. On another Instagram post on, DJ Arafat was seen with a woman whom he was going to marry according to a translated French Caption that read, “Verified Lion never marries guenon #testerrester @ladykee_ny_ ❤️ Appointment this 10/08/19 treich it will shit ๐Ÿ”ฅ”

DJ Arafat was born on January 26, 1986, and died on August 12, 2019, at the age of 33.

DJ Arafat made the Coupรฉ-Dรฉcalรฉ genre of music. According to BBC News, Coupรฉ-decalรฉ means “cut and run,” and was born in the early 2000s during Ivory Coast’s civil war and emphasised that young people still wanted to have fun despite the conflict, reports the BBC’s Hatouma Diarra from Abidjan. DJ Arafat came to symbolise the flashy well-dressed lifestyle associated with the music, which features fast percussion, deep bass and hip-hop-style vocals. He issued 11 albums, mainly of “coupe-decale,” a dance music form combining choppy rhythms with hip-hop-style vocals.

The Ivorian dance megastar smashed into a car while out riding his motorcycle in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. He was admitted to hospital in the capital city, Abidjan, with a fractured skull after his motorcycle collided with a car on August 11th 2019, says the UK Sun. The singer was also known for his love of motorcycles and featured them in his most recent hit, Moto Moto, that was released in May, which has more than four million YouTube views.

DJ Arafat Tributes

Ivory Coast Culture Minister Maurice Kouakou Bandaman has expressed his condolences in a statement and said a tribute would be organised to honour the musician. Fellow artists have also been sharing their condolences, including Nigerian star Davido and fellow Ivorian rapper Kaaris.
