The 2019 sequel, starring Idina Menzel and Kristen Bell, has generated an enormous $1.33 billion at the global box office, pushing the original 2013 Disney musical into second place with $1.28 billion.
Third place in the list is Incredibles 2, which grossed $1.24 billion, followed by Minions which took $1.16 billion
Although Disney’s reboot of The Lion King took in a massive $1.65billion last year (2019), the film is technically counted as a “live-action remake” rather than an animated movie, so is omitted from the list.
As Frozen and Incredibles are both Disney franchises, the studio has secured the top three animated slots. Frozen 2 was also the third-biggest film of 2019, after Disney’s Avengers: Endgame which raked in $2.79 billion and The Lion King, rounding off a hugely successful year for the company.
