Prince Harry And Meghan Markle Want To Be ‘Financially Independent’

Following a year of particularly relentless media attention, Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, announced Wednesday they would step back from their roles as senior members of the royal family and—in a notable break from the past—work to become “financially independent.”

In a joint statement posted to Instagram, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution. We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen. It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honor our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.

We look forward to sharing the full details of this exciting next step in due course, as we continue to collaborate with Her Majesty The Queen, The Prince of Wales, The Duke of Cambridge and all relevant parties. Until then, please accept our deepest thanks for your continued support.” - The Duke and Duchess of Sussex.

Here are some fans reactions:

I'm really sorry that you both have to go through this it's a very horrible reflection of our British society, the deep hidden racism and hatred of ethnic minorities. I think it's utterly disgraceful the way the British Media have have completely tried to annihilate both of you and held you under such intense scrutiny of everything that you do. Nothing you could have ever done would have been good enough it seems to me as if if people were just waiting for any opportunity to Herald you as not good enough. People pretended to be absolutely ecstatic when you were joining the royal family so as to not seem racist when when in fact a lot of people could not stand the fact a person of a different race was entering into the royal family and we're just waiting for anything to be able to criticize and put you down. I 100% understand and encourage your decision to move out of the country for the sake of your family and sanity. I really wish you both all the love in the world and I think you're both really great people who I doing the best thing in the face of adversity - By gabby_weather.

Best wishes for your future, but glad to hear you still will be involved in royal duties .your trip and involvement in commonwealth as been inspirational please stay involved.those countries needs involvement and you being appointed by the Queen was a good step in keeping the commonwealth together and represented.you did a wonderful job on your trip.do not give up on the royal family .being a daughter in law is hard in any family but being a member of the royal family extra hard fitting in learning customs and traditions while being under the public eye.but hold on the royal family will thrive with diversity which you bring.many family’s can identify.need change .plus William will need the support of his brother and Charles his son and the queen her grandson do not give up on the royal family and the duties that involves or the British people they need you and love you - by lockewheatonjan.
