He caught the creature, which had gone under a stone on the pavement. However, he is said to have become overconfident and started to play with the cobra.
When he tried to kiss it, the irritated reptile struck him on the mouth, administering a lethal dose of venom. The snake charmer began bleeding from his face and was taken to a local hospital.
He was later referred to Mcgann hospital in Shimoga for specialist treatment. Doctors said Sonu survived the attack due to timely treatment. His face was badly swollen for nearly 10 days, but he is now recovering from the incident.
In 2018, a snake charmer is bitten by a KING COBRA during a performance in Thailand, then passes out before he is rushed to hospital where doctors save his life.
Yuttapong Chaibooddee, 35, was performing at an animal show in Phuket, Thailand, when the venomous snake sunk its fangs into his arm.
The entertainer yanked the reptile from his arm and threw it to the ground before walking away and checking his wound.
Mr Chaibooddee passed out just moments later and was rushed to hospital.
Doctors pumped the father-of-one full of antibodies and placed him on life support machines after he stopped breathing.
The snake charmer was released after three nights but even after ten days, he still has deep burn-like wound across on his left bicep, forearm, thighs and even inside his lips. The Daily Mail reported.
Mr Chaibooddee said he knows the industry is 'high risk' and accepts all responsibility for being bitten.
He added: 'The snake's instinct is to bite. It is not the snake's fault.
'I have many wounds but they are not infected. They are healing. The scars are on my arms and legs, just from one bite.
'They show how powerful this snake's venom is.
'I was very lucky because we had the anti-venom nearby and an ambulance to take me to hospital.
'Without that, I would have died.'
About Cobra:
The world’s largest venomous snake is the king cobra. Found predominantly in forests from India through Southeast Asia to the Philippines and Indonesia, it preys chiefly on other snakes. Maximum confirmed length is 5.6 metres (18 feet), but most do not exceed 3.6 metres (12 feet). King cobras guard a nest of 20 to 40 eggs, which are laid in a mound of leaves gathered by the female. The guarding parent will strike if a predator or a person approaches too closely. Not all cobras are egg layers.
The Indian cobra was formerly considered a single species with much the same distribution as the king cobra. Recently, however, biologists have discovered that nearly a dozen species exist in Asia, some being venom spitters and others not. They vary both in size (most ranging between 1.25 and 1.75 metres) and in the toxicity of their venom. Spitters propel venom through the fangs by muscular contraction of the venom ducts and by forcing air out of the single lung.
